I am going for it. This week kicked off Lilla Roger's Make Art That Sells GLOBAL TALENT SEARCH. It's Lilla's way of choosing the artists she'd like to represent and work with. Three rounds of assignments, guest judges, people's choice and a fashizznits ton of artwork-making by about 1000 different artists from around the world. It is humbling and terrific and terrifying because of course I'm hoping one of those artists will be me. BUT friends, I am a firm believer in contingency plans. And my 3-pronged contingency plan for the rest of the summer if I don't get to be part of that glorious 50 that get to the next round, is
1. Don't be too discouraged and keep up the good work! I will then proceed to 2 (after a long walk down to the river and many deep yogariffic lion breaths. Or is that reptilian brain breaths?)
2. Make a ton of work for the markets I want to work in! DUH! Of course! These are: making visual books, designing beautiful packaging and getting some of my work on textiles and ceramics so everyone can be surrounded by my ideas about the organic weirdness of nature! Oh and I'd like some editorial work--oh yes, I'd love some of that. And kids lit! So many plans. (Art directors, I'll still have my self worth so feel free to take a chance on me.)
Oh and 3. I'll also need to start getting my cohones in tact and begin to contact some art directors and editors on my own. Unless you're looking now in which case HI!
So see, this is how to have a plan. I'm also going to go white water rafting and sleep for a full 24 hours.
